Travel and Finding Us

We are on the south western coast of the Isle of Wight just outside the village of Chale and a few miles from Ventnor.

How to find us

Our address is Chale Bay Farm, Military Road, Chale, Isle of Wight, PO38 2JF. We have an extensive car park at  Chale Bay Farm, just a moment's walk from your apartment.

Start your holiday with a Ferry Cruise

When you visit the Isle of Wight your holiday begins before you even get here, with a cruise across the Solent - and getting on a ferry is far less hassle than going through an airport - just book the ticket and turn up 30 minutes before your crossing time and roll straight on.

The Southampton route is particularly interesting as it passes down Southampton Water often with the opportunity to see big cruise ships nearby.

Frequent services across the Solent makes travelling to the Isle of Wight very quick and easy. We can usually proivide discount coupons for use with Red Funnel from Southampton and Wightlink from Portsmouth or Lymington.

Getting to the Ferry Ports

The M3/M27 is the traditional route to the Southampton and Portsmouth ferry ports, however the opening of the new A3 tunnel at Hindhead means the A3 is now dual carriageway the whole way from J10 of the M25 into Portsmouth and is likely to be quicker for London-based visitors. The M40/A34/M3 route to Southampton is great for people coming from Birmingham and the North and Lymington is a quieter and attractive crossing for people coming from the West.

If using the trains you will find quick train links via London (Waterloo) to both Southampton and Portmouth with easy bus or taxi transfers to the ports, as well as through routes from other parts of the country - if coming without a car you might fancy an exciting hovercraft ride with Hovertravel from Southsea (adjacent to Portsmouth) or the RedJet/FastCat catermarans.

Finding us once you are on the Island

If travelling by car, you can download and follow our handy navigation instructions or set your SatNav for PO38 2JF (or if you do not have postcode search, select Military Road near the junction with Church Place in Chale). In our experience SatNavs generally make a good job in finding us, however if you get diverted down a rough track at any point on your journey we suggest you ignore it and follow the main road until rerouted. It typically takes less than half an hour to reach us from any of the main ports using our navigation instructions, though some SatNavs may take you "the scenic route" via Carisbrooke and Shorwell, which is a pleasant drive but takes a little longer.

By Air

Sandown Airport seems busier than ever and Bembridge is a great place to visit with the Propeller Inn so if you are a private pilot we can arrange pickup on request. We are private pilots ourselves and can offer full flight planning facilities and special deals on weather diversions or if you get weathered in, subject to room availability.  We are probably one of the few hotels or guesthouses in the Isle of Wight that accepts helicopters, landing in our paddock, less than a two minute walk from reception!
